ReikiMaybe you’ve heard the word Reiki but aren’t sure what it means.  Or you’ve read about Reiki being used in hospital and health care settings as an alternative therapy.  Perhaps you’ve wanted to learn more about Reiki, or even give it a try.  Here’s what you need to know.

Reiki is a gentle form of intention guided, meditative healing. Similar to the practices of Qigong, Pranic Healing, Healing Touch, and Therapeutic Touch; the practice of Reiki involves a Reiki Therapist using their hands placed gently on or around the body with the intention of sending healing energy to the recipient.

Often performed on a massage table, a Reiki session is done with the recipient fully clothed and resting in a comfortable physical position.  After learning the recipients goals and needs, the session will usually start with some deep, calming breaths and intention setting by both the therapist and the recipient. During the session, the therapist will gently place their hands in a variety of positions on and around the body. Perhaps the therapist will focus most where healing is needed or maybe they’ll move thru energy patterns and flows in and around the body.

A Reiki session is generally deeply soothing, calming, restorative and relaxing.  It is perfect for clients whose minds race frequently, and also for people who are working thru emotional trauma.  Additionally, Reiki is a terrific addition to healing physical pain, injuries and illnesses.  Used as a complimentary therapy to help enhance the benefits of traditional medicine and healing methods; Reiki is now used in hospitals and clinics around the world.

Reiki is perfect as a stand-alone treatment for those times when you needs some calm, soothing, positive intention therapy.  And, it is also wonderful as an add-on to a massage, facial or stretching session.  Integrating Reiki into your massage or facial is a great way to make your session even more restorative, healing, relaxing and integrating.
