What massage modalities do your therapists perform?
We are Therapeutic Massage experts, which is what most clients need. We also offer these modalities: Relaxation, Prenatal (all trimesters), Neuromuscular, Reflexology, Sports, Ashiatsu, Thai Yoga, Reiki & Cranial Sacral Therapy. You can receive the following add-on techniques to most massages as well: Hot Stone, Cupping, Bamboo Fusion & CBD oil. This blend of experience and training makes Island Massage very special. Many of our seasoned providers have a strong clinical background and the experience to provide relief through the soft tissues from muscular, fascial, nerve & joint pain. What is the difference between a Relaxation & Therapeutic massage?
Relaxation massage is a light to medium pressure with long smooth strokes. The therapist will avoid using trigger point or deeper pressure to break up adhesions, but will loosen up stiffness and knots with long strokes. This is a good massage for a first timer, or someone without much discomfort in their bodies and just looking to relax.
Therapeutic massage is a medium to deep pressure and will incorporate trigger point and neuromuscular techniques to target knots and adhesions. This more therapy oriented massage will involve more thumbs & elbows to provide relief of chronic pain points. You may be sore the following day as your body works to expel toxins and repair the tissues where the adhesions were.
How long should I choose for my massage?
Consider how long it has been since your last massage, how long it generally takes you to relax and how much current pain you are carrying. Some muscle groups take longer to release, like the back and glutes. In any massage you can request specific areas to be worked, or not worked. A typical massage can include almost every body part from your scalp to your feet, but each therapist will have a different rhythm and may focus more where they see fit. So, if you love a good scalp or foot massage, speak up in the beginning so they can make the most of your minutes! In short, no one has ever come out of session and said, that massage was too long!
*No massage will include bodywork to the abdomen, chest or private areas and we reserve the right to refuse service for any inappropriate requests or actions.
What facials do you offer?
We use a variety of natural, yet potent, products that your skin is sure to love in addition to the Hydrafacial, the gold standard of skin care. Our estheticians have the experience to calm rosacea & acne in addition to more traditional skin concerns like wrinkles, lines and dehydration. Our facial/massage combination services are a fan favorite and fill up quickly with our dual licensed providers.
What should I wear?
Dress comfortably! Your level of undress for service is entirely up to you and your comfort level. For most services, we do recommend full undress to allow for completely uninterrupted strokes. You will be properly draped and covered throughout your service in accordance with Department of Health guidelines. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Should I tip my therapist?
At Island Massage Therapy, we do not collect credit card tips through our office software; so all gratuities are directly between the client and the therapist and cash is recommended, although most are able to accept electronic payments through Venmo or Zelle. We do have a cash drawer to make change for you. It is customary to tip when receiving massage and skin care services if you are happy with the professionalism and service provided. Generally, most clients tip 20% of the service price.
When is Island Massage open?
St Pete: We schedule services 7 days per week between 9am-9pm with our independent contractors. However, our reception desk is staffed 7 days per week from 10am-3pm. Our front door may be locked outside these hours, and we invite you to have a seat on the patio and enjoy the view until your therapist comes outside to greet you. This reduction in office staff helps us keep our prices lower and more commission in the therapists’ pocket. We appreciate your understanding.
Safety Harbor: We are open and the desk is staffed from 10am to 7pm 7 days per week and may accept earlier or later appointments by request.
We have 3 locations, when you click book now you will be directed to choose a location for your booking.
St Pete: we are on the 2nd floor of the Isla Del Sol Shopping Center at 5901 Sun Blvd in Suite 205, on Isla Del Sol across from the golf & country club. Our front door faces the pond/fountain from the upstairs level. There are 2 staircases and an elevator, once you get upstairs just look for our seating area and plants. If you have an appointment, but our door is locked, just have a seat on the patio and we will be with you at your appointment time.
Safety Harbor: we’re located in the Fessler Agency plaza next to Mease Countryside hospital at 3165 N McMullen Booth Rd.
We have relaxed our COVID policies and will continue to monitor guidance from the CDC and Florida Department of Health. We will continue to use hepa filters in the HVAC and treatment rooms to keep our indoor air as pollutant-free as possible. If you have mask preferences, please share them with your provider who will be happy to let you set the tone for your comfort during your treatment.
At least once a month. Every BODY benefits from a once a month ‘maintenance massage’. If you have chronic injuries, are recovering from trauma, are very active or under high stress; you’ll want to get massages more frequently. Our therapists can make personalized recommendations once they’ve had a session with you.
At least once a month. Facials are an important part of maintaining a healthy skin regimen. Our estheticians can make personalized recommendations to address various skin concerns in the spa and at home, once they’ve had a session with you.
We recommend that you book standing appointments or rebook your next session before leaving if you have a preferred provider and/or day & time that works best for you. We happily accept walk-ins/same day appointments if available and keep a wait list for any last minute cancellations. We hold a space for you so we ask that you hold a space for us with our 24 hour cancellation policy to allow us time to rebook our providers. If you no show or cancel within 24 hours we will charge 100% of the service cost to your card on file.
Yes, we have Gift Certificates available in any dollar amount. Gift Certificates can be purchased online HERE or they may be purchased in our office.
